At Schiphol airport, a passenger couple observed piles of misplaced luggage at the arrivals terminal. When they asked the baggage handlers about the issue, the response was: "we are sorry, but we just don't have enough staff to contact each passenger and tell them we have found their luggage."

So the couple decided to take matters into their own altruistic hands. They checked the luggage tag on one of the bags and saw that it contained a phone number. They called it and told the person that the bag was lying on the floor at Schiphol airport. The person would have to come and claim it, or wait for weeks until the airline would get around to contacting them.

They continued to do this with dozens of other bags. When KLM was told this was going on, they replied that this was inappropriate, as the couple was breaching the privacy of the luggage owners...
