America is not awful. It is also not the greatest place on Earth. Every country has its pros and cons. No culture is better than another.
People who have never experienced another culture typically don’t know what they are missing. This is true for anybody all over the world. Only when you leave your culture can you look back at it with a different perspective.
There is an Arab saying that goes: “We don’t know who invented water, but we’re sure it wasn’t a fish!”
The idea is that fish are not aware of water, because they are born and raised in it. We are not aware of the pros and cons of our culture because we are born and raised in it.
A fish only realizes that water exists when it is taken out of water. We only realize what our culture is about when we leave it to experience a different one.
Speaking about “Europe being considered more free” is a mistake, by the way, because there are five different types of culture in Europe. From a cultural perspective, Britain is completely different from Portugal, for instance, and they are both different from Germany, which is a different category compared to them. France is a different type, while the Netherlands belongs to a fifth type of culture.
